Its founder, Kiichiro Toyoda, changed the named to Toyota after a contest for a new logo resulted in using a T instead of a D.
Kiichiro’s dad was an inventor of looms
Sakichi Toyoda, Kiichiro’s father, held patents for inventions that changed the modern textile industry, including Japan’s first power loom.
The first Toyota engine had Chevy parts
The Toyota Model A engine, which produced 65hp, was made of original pieces along with Chevy pieces.
The car that had the Model A1 engine was pretty much a Chrysler
The Chrysler DeSoto was the body design for the Model A1 engine to go in because Kiichiro believed that the design was ahead of its time. Seeing that the Toyota car would take a couple of years to make, Kiichiro didn’t want it to look dated when it did.
Toyota drove three cars 100,000 miles for publicity
After Japan announced its new freeway, Toyota drove three cars between Osaka and Nagoya to show off its new design for the Corona.
